Casino bonus package: why “up to 100,000 hryvnia” is not about you

A package is not a single bonus but a construction kit of several promotions stitched into one offer. And the figure on the banner that looks like a gift is in fact the arithmetic sum of the maximums of all its parts — a number that very few players actually reach.

Let's take the construction apart: what a package is assembled from, in what order it is activated, where its value leaks away and how to calculate in five minutes what it is worth to you personally at your deposit size. There is a separate breakdown of how an individual deposit bonus works — here we are talking specifically about the package as a whole.

What a typical package consists of

The standard construction on the market looks like this: three or four parts, each tied to a deposit of a particular number, plus free spins spread across the parts.

  • First deposit: 100% up to 10,000 hryvnia + 100 free spins.
  • Second deposit: 75% up to 15,000 hryvnia + 50 free spins.
  • Third deposit: 50% up to 20,000 hryvnia.
  • Fourth deposit: 50% up to 25,000 hryvnia + 50 free spins.

On the banner this turns into «up to 70,000 hryvnia and 200 free spins». Formally it is honest — the sum really is that. In practice, though, to get it you have to deposit 10,000 + 20,000 + 40,000 + 50,000, that is 120,000 hryvnia of your own money, and do it sequentially, meeting the wagering requirement on each part.

Three things the total figure hides

1. The percentage drops with every step

The first part is always the most generous — it works as the hook. After that the percentage goes down while the cap goes up. That is not a coincidence but a calculation: to collect a large bonus in percentage terms you need a disproportionately large deposit.

Work out the average percentage across the whole package from the example above: 70,000 of bonus on 120,000 of deposits is 58%, not the 100% you see first.

2. The parts are activated one after another, not together

The second bonus usually becomes available only after the first one has been wagered. That means what lies between the deposits is not a pause but work: turnover of tens of thousands of hryvnia, a bet limit and a deadline. A four-part package is not a promotion for one evening but a commitment for several weeks.

Hence a consequence people rarely think about: a failure on any one part breaks the whole chain. If you did not manage to wager the second part in time, the third and fourth simply will not be activated.

3. Free spins in a package are almost always issued in batches

«200 free spins» rarely arrive as a single block. The typical scheme is 20–25 spins a day over a week or two, tied to a specific slot and with its own deadline for each batch. Miss a day and that part expires, with no way to get it back.

One more layer: winnings from free spins almost always have a separate cap and a separate wager that differs from the wager on the main bonus. These are two different sets of conditions inside a single offer.

How to calculate the value of a package for your deposit

The method is simple and takes a few minutes. The key is to count not the whole package but the part of it you will actually use.

Step 1. Decide on the amount you are genuinely ready to deposit. Not «what if», but for real — say, 3,000 hryvnia.

Step 2. Look at what the first part gives on that amount. At 100% up to 10,000 you will get 3,000 of bonus, not 10,000: the cap is irrelevant here because your deposit is below it.

Step 3. Calculate the turnover. Find out what the wager is counted from — the bonus alone or the deposit plus bonus. At x35 the difference will be between 105,000 and 210,000 hryvnia of turnover.

Step 4. Estimate the expected loss: turnover × (100% − RTP). At a turnover of 105,000 and an RTP of 96% that is 4,200 hryvnia — more than the 3,000 bonus itself.

Step 5. Stop there and do not count the remaining parts if you are not planning to deposit another 100,000 hryvnia. For you, the package equals its first part.

This calculation does not mean you will definitely lose — variance over short distances is enormous. It shows something else: a package does not create profit, it extends playing time. As a deal for entertainment that is honest; as a way to earn money it is not.

How to compare two packages

Comparing the total figures on banners is pointless — that is a marketing contest. Compare using three indicators brought to a common denominator:

  • The bonus on your deposit amount. Not on the cap, but on yours — in hryvnia.
  • The turnover required of you to withdraw that bonus — also in hryvnia, not in multipliers.
  • The deadline for the first part and the bet limit while wagering.

In most cases a package with a more modest total figure but a x20 wager on the bonus turns out to be better value than «up to 100,000» with a x45 wager on deposit plus bonus. The difference can easily be twofold.

What a player from Ukraine should keep in mind

Free elements in a package mean an illegal site

Since April 2025 the law prohibits operators from giving players bonuses without a deposit. So if a package includes spins for registering, a no-deposit «starter» credit or a gift for verification, that operator does not hold a PlayCity licence. Parts tied to a deposit are legal; free ones are not.

Spending limits make large packages unreachable

The legal market has mandatory restrictions: gambling spend cannot exceed 15% of declared average monthly income per day, 25% per week and 40% per month. That means a sequence of four deposits totalling 120,000 hryvnia is physically impossible for most players — the limit will not let it through. Financial limits may be changed once a month.

This is worth understanding before you count on the full package: it is often designed for markets without such restrictions.

Tax is calculated on winnings, not on the bottom line

Winnings are taxed at a combined rate of 23% — 18% personal income tax plus a 5% military levy — and a licensed operator withholds it as a tax agent. Losses do not reduce the base. This layer also has to be factored into the value of a package: the expected benefit after tax is lower than what pure bonus arithmetic produces.

Common mistakes with packages

  • Splitting a deposit into small parts. Each part of a package is tied to a single deposit: pay in 10,000 across three payments and the bonus will be credited only on the first one.
  • Depositing more than the cap of a part. The excess is not multiplied, but it often falls under the wager.
  • Taking the second part without assessing the first. If wagering the first was hard, the second will be harder — the percentage is lower and the turnover is bigger.
  • Counting free spins as money. A spin at a face value of 2 hryvnia is not a gift of 400 hryvnia for 200 spins but a lottery ticket with its own cap on winnings.
  • Chasing the full package. The most common and most expensive mistake: a person deposits more than planned in order to «reach» the third part.

When a package makes sense

If you were going to play for several weeks anyway, make several deposits and your usual bet size fits within the wagering limit, a package gives you more time in the game for the same money. That is its real function, and in that role it works perfectly well.

If you have dropped in for one evening or plan to withdraw your winnings straight away, take only the first part or simply play with your own money. Your own funds are not bound by a wager, no bet limit applies to them, and they can be withdrawn at any moment.

The key points in brief

The total figure of a bonus package is the arithmetic sum of the maximums of all its parts, calculated for a deposit most players will never make. Only the first part actually concerns you, and that is exactly what you should calculate: the bonus in hryvnia on your amount, the turnover in hryvnia needed to withdraw it, the deadline and the bet limit.

For Ukraine, add two filters: free elements inside a package mean the operator is working outside the law, and mandatory spending limits make a full multi-step package practically unreachable. A package does not make play profitable — it makes it longer, and that is the only thing worth judging it by.
