Main Betting Markets for MMA and Boxing

Bookmakers accept bets on the fight outcome, method of victory, duration, and additional events. The simplest market is fight winner: you pick one of the two fighters, and the bet wins if they win by any method. In boxing, the third outcome — draw — is rare but exists as a separate bet; in MMA a draw is only possible by judges' decision and is also available as a bet.

The method of victory market lets you refine your prediction: knockout (KO or TKO — technical knockout, when the referee stops the fight), submission (choke or joint lock in MMA), judges' decision (unanimous, split, or majority). Odds on a specific method are higher than simply on a win, but require a more precise forecast. For example, if you bet on a knockout victory but the fighter wins by decision — the bet loses.

Total rounds — a bet on how many rounds the fight will last. The bookmaker sets a line, for example 9.5 rounds in a twelve-round bout: over — the fight ends in the tenth round or later, under — in the ninth or earlier. If a fight ends early in the first half of a round, that round is usually not counted; if in the second half — it is counted. Settlement rules vary between bookmakers, so read the rules section on the site.

The "Will the fight go the distance" (Go the Distance) market is a simplified version of the total: the bet wins if the fight ends by judges' decision, and loses if it ends early by any method. In boxing the distance is most often 10 or 12 rounds, in MMA — 3 or 5 rounds depending on the status of the fight.

Fight Cancellation and Opponent Replacement

Fights in MMA and boxing can be cancelled due to injury, weight issues, or other circumstances. If a fight doesn't take place, the bet is usually refunded (odds 1.0). Opponent replacement a few days before the fight is a common situation in MMA: settlement rules in this case depend on the bookmaker. Some operators void bets, others leave them in play. Weight Classes, Styles, and Weigh-In

MMA and boxing have weight classes — from flyweight to heavyweight. Fighters in the same class can differ greatly in style: boxers are divided into knockout punchers, technical outfighters, and infighters; MMA fighters into grapplers (wrestling style), strikers (striking technique), and all-rounders. Understanding stylistic matchups helps assess the likelihood of a particular outcome.

Weigh-in takes place the day before the fight: if a fighter doesn't make the weight limit for the class, the fight may be cancelled, moved to a higher weight class, or conducted with a penalty. Bets on such fights carry additional risk — follow the news on weigh-in day.

Bet Settlement Example

Suppose you bet 1,000 hryvnia on fighter A to win at odds of 2.30. If fighter A wins, the payout will be 1,000 × 2.30 = 2,300 hryvnia. Net winnings — 2,300 − 1,000 = 1,300 hryvnia. If you place the bet with a licensed operator in Ukraine, 23% is withheld from winnings (18% income tax and 5% military levy) — you receive 2,300 − (1,300 × 0.23) = 2,001 hryvnia. If the bet is placed with a foreign operator, there is no tax agent in Ukraine, and the obligation to declare income and pay tax lies with the player.

Beginner Mistakes

The most common mistake is betting on a heavy favorite at odds of 1.10–1.20 hoping for an "easy win". Combat sports are unpredictable: one accurate strike or successful submission can change the outcome of a fight. Low odds mean that to achieve a noticeable profit you'll have to risk a large sum, and in case of a loss the damage will be significant.

Another mistake is ignoring settlement rules when a fight is cancelled or an opponent is replaced. Check these conditions in advance, especially if betting several days before the event. Don't bet on a fight without knowing the fighters' styles, their recent results, and the history of matchups in that weight class.

Legality of Betting in Ukraine

Law № 768-IX of July 14, 2020 legalized the gambling market in Ukraine, including online sports betting. From April 1, 2025, regulatory functions are performed by the State Agency of Ukraine "PlayCity" (PlayCity), subordinate to the Ministry of Digital Transformation. Only operators registered in the official PlayCity registry can legally operate in Ukraine. As of December 2025, more than 30 online casinos are registered in the registry; bookmakers can also obtain a license under the same conditions.

All four bookmakers in the site's rating — SpinBetter, Pinnacle, Slotoro, and Unibet — do not have a PlayCity license and are considered unlicensed in Ukraine. Their sites are subject to blocking, and players receive no protection from the Ukrainian regulator. According to the head of PlayCity (July 2026), the agency has blocked more than 9,500 illegal sites and mirrors. In case of a dispute with an unlicensed operator, you will not receive protection from the Ukrainian regulator.

Participation in gambling is permitted for persons aged 21 and over. Betting on combat sports is entertainment with a risk of losing money, not a way to earn income. Set a budget you are prepared to spend and don't exceed it. Take breaks, don't bet on credit, and don't try to chase losses by increasing stakes.

The law requires licensed operators to implement responsible gaming tools: spending limits, mandatory breaks, prohibition of credit betting. A self-exclusion application can be submitted on the PlayCity site for a period from 6 months to 3 years and cannot be revoked early.
